Almaqaleh’s Literary theory: introductions to poets’ divans as a model

Abstract

This article aims to elicit Almaqaleh’s literary theory from his introductions to poetry. The study employs the inductive, descriptive and analytical approach. It is divided into an introduction and ......sections. Section 1 discusses Almaqalih’s concept of the Introduction. Section 2 presents the importance of the title, the concept of poetry and the source of poetry. Section 3 tackles the function of poetry, the poet, classification of poets. Section 4 deals with the interpretation of creativity, the contemporary poetic movement in Yemen and types of poetry. It concludes that Almaqaleh disnguishes between two terms: the Introduction as an indicative writing style, and the allusion as a testimony or poet’s authorization. Alamaqaleh has his own standard for classifying poets: according to either art or time.
