Development of Residential Buildings in the City of Ibb: An Approach towards Enhancing Urban Environment

Abstract

The study aims to contribute to solving the problems of excessive housing needs for low-income individuals, and to develop plans and solutions that can keep up with the rapid urbanization while considering the natural and cultural characteristics of the city of Ibb. The study is divided into an introduction, two sections and a conclusion. The first section dealt with the theoretical study of Ibb city. The second section focused on the field study, presenting a topological analysis of the prevailing architectural patterns in the city according to the changes in the three time periods: the traditional architecture phase, the post-September 26 revolution phase, and the post-Yemeni unification phase in 1990. The study results showed that higher residential costs and scarce funding resources posed a challenge to low-income individuals and urban development plans.
