Abstract

#This research aims to discuss an issue from the Islamic jurisprudence, which is the efficiency in retribution in self-defense through a collection of hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, and the explanation of the hadiths that jurists use as evidence for their conclusions. The research adopts an inductive and descriptive-analytical approach. It is divided into a general introduction, followed by six sections: the first section defines terms related to the research, the second section discusses hadiths related to the killing of a Muslim by a disbeliever, the third section discusses hadiths related to the killing of a free person by a slave, the fourth section discusses hadiths related to the killing of a man by a woman, the fifth section discusses hadiths related to the killing of a group by an individual, and the sixth section covers various related issues. The research concludes with a conclusion that includes the most important findings, including the fact that the ruling of retribution in self-defense is an aspect of justice upon which Islamic law is based. Retribution means treating the criminal in the same way they treated the victim, and one of the conditions for retribution is that the criminal must be equivalent to the victim in terms of what is considered in this ruling.
