Abstract

This research deals with the semiotics of parallel texts in the Storm on the East novel using semiotic analysis.  The semiotic method is chosen for its effective in uncovering dimensions of text thresholds, semiotics of characters, and space-time connotations and their relationships to the events and ensuing conflict in the novel.

The study points out the importance of thresholds, characters, and space, and their goals and semiotic objectives, particularly the degree of coherence among these factors and the potential, implicit, and connotative power they exhibit in this literary work.

A literary text derives its interpretative and connotative dimensions from the coherence and harmony that exist among its different parts, which are important to remember during the interpretive process.

The novelist chose an appropriate context that accords with the events of the novel, and succeeded in modulating flow and tone of speech as well as catapulting (the reader) across contexts to underscore the effect of the storm.
