Requirements for the development of Yemeni university libraries in light of the requirements of the knowledge society

Abstract

The study aimed to identify the legal, administrative, human, financial and technical requirements for the development of university libraries in the light of the requirements of the knowledge society. By reviewing the theoretical literature related to the subject of the study, which is an office method based on collecting, tabulating and analyzing data and information, and then reaching to a number of conclusions and recommendations; the most prominent of which are:

1- There is a low level of the reality of the internal environment of university libraries in all areas of the internal environment due to the weakness and shortcomings of libraries in their infrastructure, resources, systems, management and structures; and there are only plans that are not related to implementation in the reality of university libraries in Yemen.

2- The availability of the requirements of the knowledge society for the development of libraries has become a necessary matter and an essential requirement to keep pace with contemporary developments.

3- Availability of digital library system requirements has become a necessary and essential requirement for creating and designing libraries in the digital age.

The research concluded a number of recommendations and proposals to address the problem under study.
