Geographic Information Systems: Environmental Importance and Planning

Abstract

The research aimed to introduce geographic information systems (GIS) in terms of its nature, its relationships with science, and its scientific, artistic, and technical requirements. The inductive approach was adopted and the research was divided into three sections; the first: Definitions of Geographic Information Systems, the second: The Relationship between Geographic Information Systems and other Scientific Fields, the third: Scientific and Information Requirements, the fourth: Technical Requirements.   The most important results are: Information is of utmost importance from planning aspects in today’s world, whether it is used for economic, military, or for other purposes. Geographic Information Systems represent an indispensable basic basis for any military, tactical, political, social, economic or engineering project, which requires research institutions to plan and pay attention to the establishment of Geographic Information Systems Centres.
