This research examines the use of substitution in the poetry of Ibrahim al-Hadhrani, and its importance in enhancing the coherence and semantic continuity of the text. Substitution involves replacing one element with another that shares an aspect of its meaning, allowing for the exclusion of partial connotations and the addition of new ones. The substitution worked on intensifying the poetic text without repeating the same phrases. The study uses a textual linguistic and draws upon logical proof to establish the boundaries that separate substitution from other literary techniques. The research consists of an introduction that addresses the importance of the research, its problems and objectives, and a preface that addresses substitution in linguistic theory. There are two practical chapters; the first deals with nominal substitution, and the second deals with verbal and sentence substitution. The conclusion includes the results. Verbal substitution only came theoretically due to the lack of practical models for it in Al-Qutuf Al-Dawani. The results showed the role of substitution in the formal consistency of the poetic text, its richness and semantic coherence, in addition to enhancing its aesthetic appeal.
