Abstract

The research aimed to provide a semantic study of the contemporary action verbs in the Authali dialect by focusing on (the past tense verb).  The comparative-descriptive approach is followed and the research is divided into two sections; the first: theoretical background and the second: the applied aspect. The results showed that: the study of dialects is important in revealing many linguistic phenomena, solving the problems of modern linguistic study and answering many of its questions. The semantic study of contemporary action verbs in the Authali dialect (past tense) represented a step on the way to building a semantic dictionary for this dialect.
