The Relationship of Secondary Education with Sustainable Human Development Using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in Al-Dhehar District, Ibb City, Yemen

Abstract

Educational services are essential which should be available and improved in society as being part of spatial geographical studies. The importance of spatial planning for land use in the city lies in the way educational services are distributed and spread in a scientific, planned, and organized manner, away from randomness. This study aimed to address the spatial analysis of educational services in secondary education in Al-Dhehar Dist., Ibb City, by identifying the population size, growth, and distribution, and the factors that hinder human development. It was found that the population has been growing rapidly, putting significant pressure on educational and other services; there were 13637 secondary school students in Al-Dhehar Dist. in 2015 who were minimized to 10587 in 2021 (-3050, 22.3%) despite the similar number (20) of schools in both years;  and based on GIS, geographic distribution of secondary educational services in Al-Dhehar Dist., the student ratio in the built area, the number of classrooms, the number of students per classroom, and spatial suitability, there was a need for establishing new schools to meet the needs of population growth in the area under study.
