Multiplying the syntactic governor and its impact on discourse: an applied descriptive semantic study from the Holy Qur’an, Hadith and Arabs’ speech

Abstract

This article aims to clarify the issue of governor and governee in Arabic syntax, not only regarding the controversial issue and its syntactic and semantic impact, being proved or disproved; rather, it examines the multiplicity of governors and governees. This study also explores what is deviated from Arab’s standard speech like having two governees bound by one governor or one of the governees may prevent the government of a governor from governing/binding the other governee. The study employs the descriptive analytical approach.  It defines and explains the government notion, its various terms, and types and conditions on both the governor and governee, c-command conditions, obligatory pro, etc. It concludes emphasizing that multiplying the syntactic governor has some sort of semantic impact on discourse based on the diversity of the Arabic speech styles.
