Sufis’ symbol and symbolism: a study on its origin requirements, significance and metaphysical dimensions

Abstract

The article aims to disambiguate what Sufis talk about, clarifying symbol and symbolism in their language. The study employs the historical, descriptive, analytic and comparative approach. It is divided into three main sections, the first of which deals with the date of the symbol origin, symbolism and its synonyms. Second 2 addresses the symbol justifications and the aim of its use. Section 3 deals with the symbol nature, its images, fields, and metaphysical dimensions. The study concludes with a number of findings including: extrapolating the Sufiism symbols in terms of their formulation and what they are made of clarifies three types, namely the mental symbol, physical symbol and metaphorical symbol.
