Abstract

A survey was conducted in Dhamar Governorate in September 1992 where 362 mothers from villages around Dhamar and 375 mothers from Dhamar City were interviewed about child feeding practices. At the time of the survey, each of the mothers had a living child who was less than 2 years old. Although around 90% of the mothers were breast-feeding their babies during the first 3 months of life, the Full Breast-feeding rate was only 41.9%. The Timely first sucking rate was zero and the Bottle-feeding rate was 25.1%. The continuing breast-feeding rote at 1 year was 60.9% and 36.4% at 2 years.
