Abstract

This research aimed to introduce readers to Yemeni proverbs in terms of their areas of spread, topics, method of collecting, classifying and tabulating them, and their expressive and pragmatic importance. The inductive-analytical approach was used and the research was arranged into two sections; the first, Theoretical: included the concept of proverbs, their importance, areas, and topics. The second section is Applied: included the approach to collecting proverbs, their tabulation and the criteria for their classification.

  The research came out with a number of results, the most important of which are: Yemeni folk literature is rich in diverse proverbs in line with the diversity of Yemeni environments. Although there are different criteria for classifying them in terms of structure, use, and meaning, the Yemeni proverbs overall importance is that they reveal popular taste and people’s outlook on life and relationships among themselves.
