Abstract

The research aimed to explore the concept of moderation in philosophical thought, from metaphysics to critical realism in terms of existence, knowledge, and values. The descriptive approach and comparative analysis were adopted. The research came in three sections; The first: A methodological and terminological background, the second: the concept of moderation, meaning and function in philosophical thought, the third: The concept of moderation in contemporary Arab philosophical thought.

The most important results are: Moderation is a concept that was widely circulated between 1990 and 2010, following the growth of the phenomenon of extremism in all its forms, and in the absence of real awareness of moderation in thought and practice. The research traced rooting of the concept of moderation in philosophical thought through the historical process from metaphysics to critical realism.
