#This study aims to explore the dual containment policy pursued by the United States towards Iraq and Iran from 1993 to 2001. It seeks to understand the historical background of this policy and determine whether it achieved its objectives in influencing Iraq and Iran. Several findings have been reached, including: Firstly, it is evident that the dual containment policy relies on multiple means such as comprehensive sanctions, isolation, support for internal opposition, and exploitation of religious and sectarian differences to exert pressure on and weaken Iraq and Iran. Secondly, the United States used this policy to achieve two goals simultaneously, rather than supporting one party against the other. Thirdly, the study reveals that the effects of the containment policy on Iraq were catastrophic in all areas, while Iran was notably affected through isolation and economic sanctions. Overall, the containment policy towards Iraq and Iran shared the main goal of containing and isolating them within their borders.
