Psychological Alienation and its relationship with self-esteem A Correlative study on a sample of Syrian and Yemeni students studying Syria

Abstract

#This study aimed to explore the relationship between psychological alienation and self-esteem, assess the differences between the Syrian and Yemeni students in the degree of psychological alienation and self-esteem, identify the significance of the differences between the Yemeni and Syrian students by specialization (scientific, humanitarian) and to identify significant differences in the degree of self- esteem between those who have received high marks and who have received low grades in psychological alienation. Yemeni students, the average age was (20.47 years) with standard deviation of (1.18 years). Study tools: the researcher applied scales of psychological alienation and self-esteem on the study sample after verifying the reliability of each scale (0.81 for psychological alienation and 0.77 for self-esteem). Results: Results revealed an inverse correlation between self-esteem psychological alienation. Yemeni students have received high marks on the scale of alienation compared with Syrian students. Upon comparing the degree of alienation among scientific disciplines between the Syrians and Yemenis, the results showed that Yemeni students significantly suffer from some degree of alienation, while the results did not show any difference in alienation between Yemeni and Syrian students in humanity discipline. Moreover, the results showed that students, general (scientific and humanistic disciplines), have significantly high regarding self-esteem compared with the Yemeni students. While the results indicated substantial differences between the average scores of students, Yemenis and Syrians, who feel alienated and who do not feel alienated regarding the scale of self-esteem in the scientific and humanistic and were feel alienated.
