Abstract

#The noticeable weakness of Arabic skills among university students become a common phenomenon and a problem need a treatment and a solution. The features of such problem embodied in the conspicuous scarcity of language dictionary owned by a university student. Moreover, it is embodied in many misspellings and in the ability weakness to form and write a systematic information. Based on the need and importance of adhering quality standers in assessing, reviewing and developing academic programs including the content of the courses as an important step to reach the programmatic credit, the present study aimed to assess the reality of teaching Arabic language material (102,102) university requirements (henceforth URS) from the perspective of teachers and students. It also aimed to provide a suggested development for this course according to the Quality Standards. For that purpose, a questionnaire was made to assess the reality of teaching Arabic language (101, 102) (URS). It consists of 25 sections containing the objectives, the contents, the strategy of teaching and learning and the styles of evaluating students' performance. This questionnaire was given to both of teachers (9 participants) and students (147 participants). The findings of this assessment which showed that the features of the required reality for teaching Arabic (URS) are realized moderately in all sections of the questionnaire except the content that its features are realized weakly. The study provided a suggested development for Arabic language (101, 102) (URS) in the form of a complete Course Description. The Course Description has been prepared in the light of the Quality Standards of the curriculum approved by the Council of Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance. It includes the general objectives of teaching Arabic for non-specialized university students, the learning outcomes, the contents with chapters and subjects, the strategy of teaching and learning used to teach the course, the evaluation styles, and finally the assignments and applied activities necessary to give students the language skills required. The Course in the current study means what is used to teach (information, Knowledge, skills, values and attitudes) in Arabic Language (URS). It is studied by university students in academic programs at Taiz University.
