Abstract

#The study aimed to identifying: a) the mathematical communications skills used by the teachers of mathematics in the secondary schools of Ibb city; and b) the possible differences among these skills whether they are attributed to the experience or gender variables. The participants of this study were (28) secondary schools' teachers (males and females). The researchers applied the Observation Card for measuring the mathematical communications skills. The findings revealed that: a) the level of the mathematical communications skills of the male teachers was average; b) the level of their reading skill was high; c) the level of speaking, writing, and listening skills was average; d) the overall mathematical communications skills proficiency was not identical among the male teachers due to the variable of experience. On the basis of these findings, the researchers recommended that there should be training courses for the teachers of mathematics in the secondary schools in particular and those of the preparatory and primary schools in general in order to be aware of the importance of these skills on the one hand, and to acquire them for the sake of teaching mathematics proficiently, on the other.
