Abstract

#The Marinid dynasty in the Maghreb emerged after the fall of the Almohad dynasty and adopted a policy aimed at preserving the remaining Islamic presence in Al-Andalus. Therefore, it made great efforts alongside the Kingdom of Granada to confront the Kingdom of Castile and the Kingdom of Aragon, whose aim was to seize the remaining Islamic territories in Al-Andalus.

However, the relationship between the Marinids and the kings of Granada was not always harmonious, especially during the wars against the Kingdom of Castile and Aragon. There were various stages where alliances were formed between the Kingdom of Granada, the Kingdom of Castile, and the Kingdom of Aragon against the Marinids, as the Kingdom of Granada feared the Marinids' ambition to annex and incorporate it into their own kingdom in the Maghreb.

Nevertheless, the Marinid dynasty showed goodwill towards the Kingdom of Granada, assuring that they had no intentions of seizing it. Their objective was to preserve the remaining Islamic presence in Al-Andalus and combat the Kingdom of Castile and Aragon.

So, what was the nature of the relationship between the Marinid dynasty and the Kingdom of Granada? What were the stages they went through? We will explore all of this by reviewing the relationship between the Marinid dynasty and the Kingdom of Granada during the first and second Marinid periods.
