Abstract

#This research aims to clarify the ruling on shortening the prayers for the Makkan pilgrims and those in a similar situation who are residents of Makkah, if they spend the night in the neighborhoods of Makkah and do not stay in Mina. In this research, I have gathered the opinions of scholars regarding the ruling on shortening prayers for the Makkan pilgrims, including the basis for their opinions and the reasons behind allowing the shortening. I have also highlighted the implications of these opinions on our specific question, which is about shortening the prayers for the Makkan pilgrim within the boundaries of Makkah. Furthermore, I have examined the extent to which some contemporary scholars permit shortening prayers based on the opinions of earlier scholars and the necessary conditions that apply. Through this research, I have reached the following conclusions:

1. None of the earlier scholars have stated the permissibility of shortening prayers for the Makkan resident or a resident in a similar situation if they spend the night in the neighborhoods of Makkah and do not stay in Mina.

2. The opinion of some contemporary scholars allowing the shortening for the Makkan resident within the boundaries of Makkah is in opposition to the consensus and does not align with the views of the four major imams or other scholars.

3. There is a lack of consensus among scholars regarding the permissibility of shortening prayers for the Makkan resident if they spend the night in the neighborhoods of Makkah, and there are conflicting opinions. Additionally, there are specific conditions that they are unable to fulfill, which are not supported by the opinions of scholars.
