Abstract

The research aimed to collect the readings in the explanation of Sahih Muslim by Imam al-Nawawi (D. 676) and study them. The descriptive-inductive approach was adopted. The research included an introduction on defining the readings and their divisions and al-Nawawi’s approach in presenting them and two sections; the first: the accepted readings and the second: the anomalous readings contained in the explanation of Sahih Muslim. The research ended with a conclusion. The main results showed that: the extent of the interest of Hadith scholars, led by Imam al-Nawawi, in readings by memorizing, spreading and directing them. Although what was stated in his explanation of Sahih Muslim was narrated with a chain of narrators to prophet Mohammad, Peace be upon him, he rarely mentioned that, perhaps due to his tendency toward brevity.
