Imam Al-Shawkani’s jurisprudential Ta’qubat on Imam Al-Jalal’s work: purification chapter as a model

This article aims to address Imam Al-Shawkani’s jurisprudential Ta’qubat (clarifications) on Imam Al-Hasan bin Ahmad Al-Jalal’s work, taking purification (ablution) chapter as a model, and presenting a comprehensive scientific investigation of the term Ta’qubat. The importance of this study lies in addressing two Yemeni well-known Imams, viz., Al-Shawkani and Al-Jalal. Moreover, it enhances the reader's conviction and firmness in reassuring the method of critics in explaining the correct and sound sayings based on the validity of evidence. The study employs the inductive, comparative, analytical and deductive approaches. It is divided into an introduction and four sections. Section 1 tackles the concept of the term “Ta’qubat” and its synonyms, stating a brief biography of both Imams. Section 2 lays out Imam Al-Shawkani’s approach in corrections, and the importance and benefits of studying them. Section 3 addresses Imam Al-Shawkani's Ta’qubat on Imam Al-Jalal’s work in terms of ablution and its provisions. Section 4 discusses Imam Al-Shawkani's Ta’qubat on Imam Al-Jalal’s work in terms of perfecting washing and its causes. The study concludes that Ta’qubat are important and effective in stating the correct jurisprudential provisions based on the Holy Qur’an and Sunna.
