Abstract

The aim of the research is to investigate the effectiveness of a program based on nanotechnology concepts in the achievement of chemistry students in the College of Applied and Educational Sciences. To achieve the research objective, the descriptive analytical and quasi-experimental method with one experimental group was used. The research sample consisted of (26) students in the fourth level of chemistry. To collect data, the research tool was used: (the achievement test for nanotechnology concepts). To reach the research results, some non-parametric statistical methods were used, namely: arithmetic means and standard deviations, a single-sample (T-test), and the Eta square equation (η2) to calculate the effect size, and Black's adjusted gain effectiveness. The results showed statistically significant differences at a significance level of (0.05 ≥ α) between the average scores of the experimental group students in the pre- and post-applications of the achievement test in the cognitive aspects of nanotechnology concepts, in favor of the post-application, and the presence of a large statistically significant effect size; attributed to the use of the program. The results also showed that the program has an acceptable effectiveness in achieving the cognitive aspects of nanotechnology concepts. The research recommended the necessity of including nanotechnology concepts in university education curricula for science branches (physics - biology - chemistry), with the reconsideration, evaluation and development of these curricula in light of nanotechnology concepts.
