Duality of using the conditionals ʔin and ʔiða and its impact on meaning

Abstract

This article aims to identify the syntacticians and interpretation and rhetoric scholarsط opinions in determining the connotation of the conditionals ʔin and ʔiða. The study employs the inductive, descriptive and analytical approach. It includes an introduction and three sections. Section 1 presents the opinions that clarify the meaning of conditionals ʔin and ʔiða. Section 2 tackles the controversial  opinions that argue for the duality of using both ʔin and ʔiða. Section 3 provides evidence from prose and poetry of such duality of use. The study concludes that ʔin can replace ʔiða, which contradicts syntacticians, interpreters and rhetoricians’ opinions. It is also found that syntacticians’ approach to separating these two particles is not unproblematic.
