This article aims to identify the impact of student’s place of residence in the urban or rural areas on his/her success or failure in the university education. This study was conducted in the academic year 2005/2006. Its population was limited to level four Taiz university students. It employs the statistical descriptive approach. It is divided into an introduction and four sections. Section 1 presents the theoretical framework. Section 2 discusses the methodology: sample size, tools, etc. Section 3 tackles the university education failure and its obstacles. Section 4 presents the social factors influencing the student’s success or failure. The study concludes that Higher Education still requires many studies and researches, addressing social, pedagogical, psychological and economic aspects to identify and evaluate its routes to rectify its different imbalances.
