Religious Symbols on Ancient Yemeni Coins

Abstract

This research aimed to extract some of the information carried by the religious symbols of various types that appeared on ancient Yemeni coins. The historical method was adopted. The research was divided into an introduction and three sections, according to the types of symbols; the First Style: Traditional Coins, the Second Style: Bain Pillars Coins, the Third Style: Coins with an Owl. It ended with a conclusion, and an appendix of tables and pictures. The research came out with a number of results, the most important of which are: The coins minted in the Kingdom of Sheba carried the largest number of symbols compared to the other Yemeni kingdoms. This was in the period before Christ, but in the period after Christ, religious symbols decreased as a result of the political change represented by the competition for the throne of the Kingdom of Sheba.
