Abstract

This research aimed to find out the common grammatical errors in the writings of second-level students in the Arabic Language Department - Faculty of Arts, Ibb University, through their answers in the curriculum analysis test for the academic year 1999/2000. The inductive-analytical approach was adopted, using a questionnaire to collect data from a sample of 167 male and female students. The research was organized in three sections; the first: General Framework of the Research, the second: Research Methodology and Procedures, the third is Discussion and Results. It ended with Conclusion and Recommendations.

The most important results are: The total number of grammatical sections in which students made mistakes amounted to 25 sections, and that the most important reasons for these errors are: the weakness of students in the pre-university education stages, their difficulty in understanding the grammatical sections assigned to them, and the predominance of the frequent use of colloquial dialects by both teachers and students.
