Abstract

This study aimed to identify the extent of effectiveness of a counselling programme for adjusting parent's negative attitudes towards deaf and hard-of-hearing. The sample of the study was composed of 10 deaf and hard-of-hearing children and 20 parents. The sample was  divided into two equivalent groups: experimental and control, each one received 5 children and 10 parents. Then, the researcher designed a measurement for parent's negative attitudes towards deaf and hard-of-hearing and a counselling programme for adjusting parent's negative attitudes towards deaf and hard-of-hearing.  After administrating the programme, it was found that there were statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental group and those of the control group in favour of the experimental one. This in turn indicated that the counselling programme used for adjusting and changing parent's negative attitudes towards deaf and hard-of-hearing was effective.
