Is It Language or Literature?

Abstract

The study is a survey of the views of the students of English in the Department of English, Faculty of Arts, Ibb University, with the purpose of finding out whether these students are interested studying the language or rather literature. It was hypothesized that students join English Department to study literature but in reality, students join English Department for studying language rather than literature. The descriptive-analytical approach was adopted and interview, observation and the questionnaire are used for the data collection. The research is divided into; an introduction, analysis of the data and a conclusion and recommendations. The main results showed that, students join English Department for studying language rather than literature as most of the students are not interested in literature.
