The research aimed to identify the factors and justifications for redefining the roles of the state in the Republic of Yemen and future directions. It followed the descriptive-analytical approach and divided into four sections; the first: redefining the role of the state, the second: economic development in Yemen, the third: the new role of the state and the fourth is the recommendations. The results showed that there were factors that necessitated redefining the role of the state in Yemen, starting with unity, the adoption of democracy, political pluralism, moving to the deterioration of economic conditions after the first half of the 1990s and the adoption of an economic, financial and administrative reform program that should be better activated.
