Abstract

This article aims to analyze Ibn Shahid’s rhetoric of figurative language in his study entitled “Altawwabi’ wa Alzawabi’”, tracing the meanings and symbols used. The study employs the descriptive analytical approach. It is divided into three sections. Section 1 tackles the study’s title and approach, rhetoric boundaries, and figurative rhetoric. Section 2 focuses on the rhetoric of naming and temporal structure. Section 3 discusses the rhetoric of names, titles and nicknames. It is concluded that Ibn Shahid was able to carefully and intentionally select words to depict what he wants to transfer, demonstrating his artistic skills in his language. It is also shown that his evident self-expression is reflected in utilizing such language to achieve literary, social and historical gains.
